
Murray High and Male tipped off in game two Saturday morning, a great game that went down to the wire with Male coming out on top 69-62. Most Valuable Player went to Male’s Tyren Moore with 33 points, Will Lovins led Murray with 18 points and 17 from Hunter Utley. Tim Haworth, long-time coach at Hopkinsville, is in his first year at the helm of the Male program.

Game three Saturday morning featured Scott County and Olive Branch, MS. Scott County was last year’s runner-up in the Kentucky state tournament while the Conquistadors are the reigning Mississippi State 5A state champions. Down by three at the end of the first quarter, Scott County tied the game at 31 at halftime and went up by one point at the end of the third quarter, pulling away in the fourth quarter to win 65-55. Bryce Long led Scott County with 15 points and Most Valuable Player was awarded to Lorenzo Williams with 11 points and 13 rebounds. D.J. Jeffries, a Memphis commit, led Olive Branch with 10 points.

Lexington Catholic and Briarcrest Christian, TN tipped off in the final game of Saturday’s early Hoopfest session. Despite holding a two point lead at halftime, Lexington Catholic was out-scored 19-4 in the third quarter to fall to 54-41. Rodney Newsom, 6’5″ center for Briarcrest Christian, led with 12 points, earning MVP honors. Lexington Catholic was led by sophomore guard Ben Johnson with 15 points.
