Cars line the road Thursday along U.S. Highway 68 in Fairdealing. Marshall County Sheriff’s Department reports say wet roads may have been to blame for an accident that left a Benton woman injured and blocked traffic on the road.

Marshall County Sheriff’s Department deputies say wet roads may have caused a crash that sent a Marshall County woman to the hospital.

According to MCSD, first responders were dispatched just after 5 p.m. Thursday to an injury collision on U.S. Highway 68 East near the Jonathan Creek Water Department building.

Police say Russell McLeod, 60, of Gilbertsville, was driving west on Hwy. 68 when his red, 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer hit pooling water in the road, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. McLeod slid into the eastbound lane and struck a white, 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The white SUV overturned, coming to rest upside down in a water-filled creek.

Witnesses were able to free the driver, Sarah Knisley, 40, of Benton, and her 9-year-old daughter Audrey from the vehicle.

Sarah Knisely was taken to Marshall County Hospital, where she was treated for injuries not deemed life-threatening.

Fairdealing-Olive Fire Department and Marshall County EMS assisted on scene.
