Charges have been amended in the case against a Paducah teen implicated in a car crash that killed local girl this weekend.

Marshall County Attorney Jeff Edwards said blood alcohol test results on Kori E. Lane, 18, of Paducah, had come in just under the legal limit at .06 BAC. The legal blood alcohol level of an impaired driving threshhold is .08 in Kentucky, prompting Edwards to amend murder charges initially filed against Lane to second-degree manslaughter during an arraignment Monday morning in Marshall County District Court.

According to Marshall County Sheriff’s Department reports, about 12:10 a.m. Saturday, responders were dispatched to a single-car crash at the intersection of Griggstown and Salyer Creek roads in Marshall County. Police say Lane was speeding and driving recklessly when the vehicle she was driving dropped off the shoulder and began to bounce. Sheriff Kevin Byars said Lane was unable to regain control of the car.

From what they described to me, it looked like she ran off the road and tried to recover, got to bouncing and then when it hit Salyer Creek Road it just kind of launched it from that point,” Byars said.

The vehicle struck a tree, killing 16-year-old Sierria D. Jones.

Lane was housed in the Marshall County Detention Center on a $500,000 bond. She will appear for bond hearing at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 24 in Marshall County District Court.

Edwards said investigators were working to determine if adults who allegedly hosted the party at which the girls had been prior to the accident could face charges. The investigation remains ongoing.

Services for Jones will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 25 at Collier Funeral Home in Benton. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 24 at the funeral home.
