Langhi gets 1,000th rebound in Lady Marshals win over Calloway County

DRAFFENVILLE – Marshall County and Calloway County girl’s teams came into Friday’s district game with 22 wins each. The game was tied 10 times in the first three quarters with the lead swinging back and forth and neither team going up by more than one to two points until the Lady Marshals led by three twice in the third quarter.

Marshall County was able to make some separation in the fourth quarter, hitting free throws in the final minute to win by 10 points led by Hannah Langhi with 22 points in the 50-40 win and her 12 rebounds gave the senior her 1,000th rebound in her career at Marshall County.

Miyah Davis had 16 points and was perfect at the free throw line going 8 for 8 to boost the Lady Marshals free throw percentage to almost 86%.

Calloway’s Charlee Settle opened the game with a field goal, tied by Langhi, then Settles again to give the Lady Lakers a 4-2 lead. A three from Miyah Davis put the Lady Marshals up by one, tied again on a free throw from Langhi. Two more Langhi free throws and a basket were answered each time by two three’s from Alicia Hornbuckle that gave Calloway a 12-10 first quarter lead.

Langhi led the Lady Marshals with six points in the second quarter through five ties and four lead changes. Tied 20-20 near the end of the half, Lorin Powell hit the second of two free throws to put Marshall County up 21-20 at halftime.

Calloway County tied the game to open the second half, but a three by Davis gave the Lady Marshals a three point lead, the largest to that point for either team. Free throws by Hornbuckle cut it back to a one point game before a nice second effort by Langhi put the Lady Marshals back up 26-23. Tied again at 27 and 29 points, Langhi’s free throw to end the third quarter gave the Lady Marshals a one point lead at 30-29.

The Lady Marshals began to put a little bit of distance between them and the Lady Lakers in the fourth quarter opening with a 6-0 run to lead 36-29 before a three from Calloway’s Megan Greer cut it to four. The lead went back and forth between four and eight points until the one minute to go mark, leading 44-39, the Lady Marshals finish the game with six straight free throws in the final minute to win 50-40.

Both team will meet again in the opening game of the District Four Tournament on February 21st at Marshall County, to determine who plays Murray for the district championship on February 23rd and get the automatic spot in the Region One Tournament.

The Lady Marshals lost 62-28 to Henderson on Saturday. Davis had 13 points and they were without Langhi who sat the game out with an injury. With a record of 23-6, they will play their final regular season game on Tuesday at home against Madisonville-North Hopkins.
