
He was a member of First Christian Church in Mayfield and a member of Epsilon Sigma Phi national Honorary Extension fraternity. He retired from the University of Kentucky as an extension agriculture agent in April of 2004.
Bill graduated from Purdue University in 1966 with a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Economics. He received a Master’s degree in Agronomy from the University of Kentucky in 1968. Bill began his career with the UK Extension Service in June of 1968 as the agriculture agent for Owen County, Owenton, KY before transferring to Graves County in May of 1973. Bill received many honors throughout his Extension career. He was an outstanding member of the Kentucky Association of County Ag Agents (KACAA) and the National Association of County Ag Agents (NACAA). During his Extension career, he worked with the adult farming community as well as the county 4-H Youth programs. He worked with many community organizations, including the Jaycees, local fire departments, the chamber of commerce and the National Wildlife Federation. He also worked with the local fair board for the Purchase District Fair every year. Bill was instrumental in bringing diverse agricultural crops to Western Kentucky, such as a tomato co-op, fish production and processing plant and poultry production. He was also instrumental in bringing Youth Special Olympics to the area.
Bill is survived by his wife of 45 years, Millie Heath Green; one sister, Barbara (George) Sofianos; two sons, Mark (Kristen Poppele) Green and Richard (Melody Channell Gough) Gough; one daughter, Gwendolyn Green (Mike) Carter; eight grandchildren, Isabella Poppelle-Green, Juliet Poppelle-Green, Alec (Alyssa) Gough, Kaitlin (Nicholas) Gough-Ostafew, Brittany Green, Kris Cole, Reed Green and William Carter; and four great grandchildren, Annalee Minto, Atlas Gough, Avalon Gough and Oliver Ostafew.
He was preceded in death by one son, Chad S. Green; one grandson, Donald Paul Carter; and his parents, Howard and Evelyn Spencer Green.
Special thanks to Davina Morrissette. She worked in the Green home for the last 16 months of Bill’s life and tirelessly cared for both he and Millie, quickly becoming part of the family.
