He was a member and deacon of Cuba Church of Christ, a member of IBEW for 55 years, a Kentucky Colonel and retired owner / operator of Routen Plumbing. He was also a veteran of the National Guard.
Mr. Routen is survived by his wife, Betty Routen; two sons, Chan (Julie) Routen of Murray, KY and Justin (Keena) Routen of Marshall County, KY; one daughter, Jinny Sue (Everett) Wilson of Mayfield, KY; one sister, Martha (Ronald) Spann of Lynnville, KY; eight grandchildren, Alex Routen, Cole (Lindsey) Routen, Lucas Routen, Gracie Routen, Bennett Routen, Maddie Wilson, Noah Wilson and Ashley Maple; and one great grandchild, Tellis Routen.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Marilyn Key and his parents, James William and Wanda Gross Routen.
Funeral services for Mr. Jimmy Routen will be 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at Byrn Funeral Home in Mayfield, KY. Kim Wilson, Mykel Tidwell and Eric George will officiate. Interment will follow at Cuba Church of Christ Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Lucas Routen, Bennett Routen, Cole Routen, Mason Clapp, Jerry Rowe and Beau Bennett. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Bruce, Dr. Dale Jones, Allen Burgess, Jimmy Thorpe, Vernon McCree, Gary Paul Wiggins and Garry Turbeville.
Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at the funeral home.
