Martha Powell, 85, of Benton, Kentucky passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2023 at Lakeway Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Martha was born in Paducah, Kentucky on August 25, 1938 to the late Willie Lee Lawrence and Lillian Watkins Lawrence. She attended Reidland High School and shortly after graduating married the love of her life, Raymond G. Powell. Martha loved caring for other people and spent over 30 years donating her time at Western Baptist as an auxiliary volunteer. She loved to sew and cook meals for her friends and family and was known for her famous banana nut bread. She was a member of Holly Hills Missionary Baptist Church where she also enjoyed singing solos and singing in the choir. More than anything else Martha loved spending her time with all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren any chance she could.
She is survived by her two daughters, Brenda Gail Dycus (Kevin) and Pamela Jane Travis (Timmy) both of Benton; one son, Jerry Lee Powell (Kay) of Paducah; one brother, David Lawrence (Merideth) of Mayfield; five grandchildren, Rebecca Jane Kaufman (Michael) of Benton, Askel Powell of Paducah, Kyle Dycus (Emily) of Thompsonville, Georgia, Cody Dycus of Nashville, Tennessee, and Amelia Powell of Paducah; three great-grandchildren, Travis, Nora and Grace Kaufman; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Powell; three sisters, Wanda Sue King, Geraldine McMunn, and Elizabeth Lawrence Dicicco; one brother, Leon Lawrence; and her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, October 6, 2023 at Filbeck-Cann Funeral Home with Bro. Duane Holland officiating. Burial will follow at Marshall County Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Friday, October 6, 2023 at Filbeck-Cann Funeral Home.
