Marshals compete at state cross country meet, Carnine paces to 60th place

LEXINGTON – Jacob Carnine moved up 26 spots from his 86th place finish in the 2013 KHSAA State Cross Country meet, to 60th on Saturday, also dropping 27 seconds off his time from last years state meet finishing in 17:23.77. Carnine’s 60th place finish was the best of the day for the Marshall County team.

Brennan Fields of Madison Central earned the individual state championship in the 3A division in a time of 15:54.73, second place went to Tanner Dowdy of South Oldham in 15:59.82 and third to Jackson Cooper of Central Hardin in a time of 16:00.89.

The team from South Oldham took first, St. Xavier second and Trinity rounding out the top three in third. The Marshals placed 30th.
For the Marshals out of the field of 248 runners, Jackson Reed finished 189th in 18:50.97, Joseph Reed placed 203rd in 19:06.63, Tieler Hamlet finished 208th in 19:09.56, Eli English placed 216th in 19:18.02, Jackson Yates took 232nd in 19:50.22 and Austin Shackleford was 234th in 20:01.15.

Kathleen Simms of Sacret Heart took first in the girl’s state race in 18:15.02. McCracken’s Ashley Zimmerman had the best finish among locals with a 39th place finish in 20:37.73.
In 2A competition, Cameron Galloway of Tilghman placed 17th in 17:19.15 while Tilghman’s Aleja Grant took 4th in 19:14.04.
Jake Cannon of Lyon County placed 24th in 17:43.80 in the 1A race and Murray’s Shelby Keith placed 17th in the girls race finishing in 20:47.18.
