Scam Alert in Graves County

beware-of-scammers

The Sheriff’s Office has been made aware of a scam that is passing through Graves County again.  Residents have reported receiving phone calls from phone number 270-220-6086.  The male calling states that he is Sgt. Richard Edwards of the Graves County Sheriff’s Office.  He will then tell the person he calls that they have failed to appear for a subpoena and that there is a warrant for their arrest.  The person is then told to not report to the Sheriff’s Office as they will be arrested but instead, they are to purchase some type of prepaid credit card and provide the caller with the numbers on the cards in order to have the warrant “taken care of.”

This scam happens from time to time in our area but we want to remind everyone that the Sheriff’s Office, nor any law enforcement agency will call and offer to “take care” of a warrant if you pay any amount of money.

If you are contacted by this subject, please disconnect the call immediately.  There is no need to report the call to law enforcement if you receive a call as we are already investigating this scam.
