(MURRAY, Ky.) — Authorities arrested two people Tuesday after executing a search warrant at a Murray residence and seizing dozens of pounds of marijuana, hundreds of THC vape products, and two loaded firearms — all located directly across the street from an elementary school.
The Calloway County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division, working alongside deputies from the Marshall County and McCracken County Sheriff’s Offices, served the warrant on Robin Court at approximately 5:30 p.m. on April 28.
Inside the home, investigators found approximately 16,873 grams — roughly 37 pounds — of marijuana, fourteen one-ounce containers of THC wax, and several hundred THC vape cartridges. Deputies also recovered digital scales, packaging and shipping materials, and other items consistent with large-scale drug distribution. Two loaded firearms, an AK-47 style pistol and a 9mm pistol, were also seized.
The residence sits directly across the street from Westside Baptist’s Kingdom Kids School.
Ronald T. Lewis, 33, of Murray, was booked into the Calloway County Detention Facility. He faces charges of trafficking marijuana over five pounds (second offense, enhanced Class B felony), trafficking a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school (Class D felony), and possession of drug paraphernalia. Shantel M. Hyte, 28, of Southhaven, Mississippi, was cited and released on a charge of marijuana possession.
Sheriff Nicky Knight noted that while medically authorized marijuana possession is legal in Kentucky, operations of this scale are not. “The combination of large-scale drug trafficking activity and the presence of loaded firearms increases the potential for violence, attracts additional criminal activity, and places nearby residents, particularly children and families, at heightened risk,” the release stated.
