The Marshals Alum is part of Coach Matthew White’s First Recruiting Class at SCC
(Ullin, IL) – Marshall County’s Talan Rose has become the third member of the Marshals’ 2025 senior class to commit to Shawnee Community College for baseball, signing his letter of intent to continue his athletic career with the Saints.
The right-handed hitter compiled a .280 batting average across five seasons with Marshall County while demonstrating exceptional defensive skills. Rose’s fielding prowess was particularly impressive, with only two errors committed over his entire five-year high school career and a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage during his final four seasons.
“Talan is exactly the type of player I want in our program,” said first-year head coach Matthew White. “He’s continuing to develop physically, and these two years of junior college baseball will give his body time to mature. Talan’s baseball IQ is off the charts. I’ve been told that he puts in extra swings long after most are in bed.”
Rose expressed enthusiasm about his decision to join the Saints. “I’m very excited to continue my baseball career at SCC. With Maddox (Cope) and Matthew (Henderson) already committed, as well as former Lake Area Rattler teammates that are here, I feel that I can be comfortable, even in a brand-new setting. I’m thankful to the Good Lord that Coach White offered me this opportunity to be a Saint.”
Shawnee Community College competes in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference (GRAC) as a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I, specifically in Region 24.
Shawnee Community College will have four Marshall County Graduates enrolled in their athletic department this fall. Along with Rose, Cope and Henderson playing baseball for the Saints, former Lady Marshal Merriel Jackson will play for the Fastpitch Softball Saints.
