(PADUCAH, Ky.)-The Barkley Regional Airport board has selected SkyWest Airlines as its new carrier following a Tuesday meeting.
Board members voted to recommend SkyWest’s proposal, which offers 12 weekly round-trip flights over a four-year contract period. The airline presented three potential service options, all utilizing 50-seat aircraft.
The chosen option will provide flights to both George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston and Chicago O’Hare International Airport. These routes will operate under SkyWest’s partnership agreement with United Airlines.
SkyWest’s other proposals included service to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport through its Delta Air Lines partnership, or exclusive service to Chicago O’Hare under the United agreement.
The board’s recommendation will now advance to the U.S. Department of Transportation for final approval. Once approved, the new service will mark a significant expansion of travel options for western Kentucky residents seeking connections to major metropolitan areas.
