Agnes Lenora Gipson Waters, age 100, returned to her Heavenly Father on June 2nd, 2025 in Nashville, TN. She was born on August 19, 1924 in Granite City, IL. to her parents, Conley Gipson and Carrie Hall Gipson. She was raised in the Christian Faith at Bellview Baptist Church in Paducah. She was the last surviving graduate of the Lone Oak High School Class of 1942.

Agnes was married to James Arthur Waters until his death in 1993. They were members of Woodlawn Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

 

Agnes was a devoted and caring wife and mother, and her three daughters pay tribute to her life well lived. As a talented seamstress and quilter, Agnes was also an active homemaker and a volunteer at the National Quilt Museum. She is survived by daughters Nancy Waters of Louisville, Judy Pinson (Jim) of Oologah, OK and Martha Smith (John) of Nashville, TN. She enjoyed being a grandmother to Ginny Gallion (Ali) of Astoria, NY, and Andrew Smith of Haleiwa, HI. She is also survived by nephew, Jeff Gipson (Deb) of Jackson, TN, sister-in-law, Carol Turner of Paducah and several nieces and nephews.

The family expresses gratitude for nurturing care received at her last place of residence, “Just Like Home.” The family also offers a special thanks to the In-Home Ministry team of Forest Hills Baptist Church for their years of ministry and care. Gratitude is also expressed for the friendships of Judith Rudolph and Esther Doherty.

Funeral services will begin at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at Hughes Funeral Home in Paducah with Bro. Tim Threatt officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Paducah.

Visitation will be held from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturday at the funeral home.
