
NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. – New Covenant Christian Academy senior basketball player Cate Taylor was named the Kentucky Christian Athletic Association Miss Basketball. This is the athletic conference’s highest individual honor.
Taylor, of Murray, was recognized after the KCAA varsity girls’ state tournament on Saturday, March 1 at West Jessamine High School. She was also named to the All-Tournament and All-State teams.
For the first time, the KCAA also presented scholarships to three seniors. Taylor received $1,500 after applying with essays about how Christian education and sports influenced her life. In the fall, she will attend Murray State University and major in marketing.
During the regular season, Taylor averaged 14.7 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 4.9 steals per game. She led the team in the quarterfinal loss to Legacy Christian Academy on Thursday, Feb. 27 with 25 points. She will finish her career at the KCAA All-Star game on Saturday, March 8 at Immaculata Classical Academy in Louisville with her teammates junior Jacey Crowell of Symsonia and sophomore Jaye Williams of Murray.
This is the sixth season NCCA has competed in middle and high school basketball but the team’s second year in the KCAA. Taylor was on the first team at NCCA. The varsity girls were coached by Greg Taylor of Murray, Jeni Harrison of Benton, and Charity Piazza of Murray.
NCCA opened for the 2010-11 school year and offers preschool through high school. In addition to basketball, extracurriculars include archery, cross country, cheerleading, golf, and track. Students are exposed to a God-centered biblically-based education as the foundation of all truth and knowledge. New Covenant is located at 218 College St. in Hardin.
