Benton Mayor Rita Dotson Sworn in as New KLC President

LEXINGTON, KY – The Kentucky League of Cities (KLC) swore in Benton Mayor Rita Dotson as the organization’s new president during a special event Thursday night at the KLC Conference & Expo in Lexington. Dotson, who has served as mayor of Benton since 2015, had previously served as the League’s first vice president. She will lead the organization for the following year, along with the new first vice president, Beaver Dam Mayor Paul Sandefur, and Second Vice President Scott Madon, mayor of Pineville.

“I’m honored to serve as the new KLC President and excited to work alongside city leaders across Kentucky,” said Dotson. “Together, we can continue to strengthen our communities, share innovative ideas, and make a lasting impact on our cities. I look forward to representing the needs of our members and ensuring KLC remains a strong voice for cities at the state and national levels.”

KLC Executive Director/CEO J.D. Chaney praised Dotson’s leadership and dedication to cities across the commonwealth. “Mayor Dotson is an exceptional leader with a true passion for serving her community,” said Chaney. “She is hands-on, engaged, and committed to making a difference in the lives of Kentuckians. Under her leadership, KLC is in great hands, and I’m confident she will continue the strong momentum we’ve built together.”

As KLC president, Dotson will be actively involved in legislative and public affairs work, help guide the organization’s advocacy efforts and operations, and work to ensure KLC’s ongoing mission is to serve Kentucky cities and the local officials who serve their communities.

The Kentucky League of Cities is a membership association serving more than 380 cities in the commonwealth. KLC provides a wide range of services, including legislative advocacy, legal services, and training to help strengthen and support cities.
