Marshall County 4-H Sharp Shooters Hit their Targets at State 4-H Shoot

Marshall County 4-H Sharp Shooters and coaches who competed in the 2024 Kentucky 4-H State 4-H Shoot.

There were 21 Marshall County 4-H Sharp Shooters members who competed in the 2024 Kentucky 4-H Shooting Sports Competition on Saturday, September 7th in Wilmore and Sunday, September 8th in Berea, KY. They were joined by over 1,000 4-Hers from counties across Kentucky in this two-day shooting sports competition.

The 4-H Sharp Shooters brought home several awards/recognitions including:

  • Air Pistol 12-14 Team – 2nd Place – Skylar Seaford, Anna Grace English, Dale Winn & Addison Wyatt
  • Air Sport Rifle 15-18 Team – 1st Place – Wiley English, Brighton Newnum, Kaden Seaford, & Emerson Odom
  • BB Rifle 15-18 Team – 1st Place – Kaden Seaford, Dalton Smith, Brighton Newnum & Emerson Odom
  • Shotgun/Trap 15-18 Team – 3rd Place – Wiley English, Dalton Smith, Kaden Seaford, Ian Kidd & Brighton Newnum
  • Air Pistol 9-11 Individual – 3rd Place – Cayson McLeod
  • Air Sport Rifle 15-18 Individual TOP SHOT 1st Place – Wiley English
  • Air Sport Rifle 15-18 Individual — 2nd Place – Brighton Newnum
  • BB Rifle 9-11 Individual – 2nd Place – Cayson McLeod

  • Shotgun Division II 15-18 Individual Top 20 – TOP SHOT 1st Place with 100 Straight – Wiley English & 16th Dalton Smith

Marshall County 4-H Sharp Shooters – Isabelle Geno, Hannah Miller, Douglas Kraft, Shelby Puckett, Issy Sumner, & Sawyer Wyatt – also participated in events during the State 4-H Shoot. For several of the members this was their first State Shoot. Several shot personal bests during Saturday and Sunday events.

The 4-Hers in Archery are coached by Patrick Westerfield & Teen Coach—Morgan Westerfield. Rifle and BB Coaches are Kyle English, Jeff Newnum, & Kosta Seaford. Pistol coaches are Bobby Cheshire & Kent Puckett. Shotgun (Trap) Coaches include Josh Smith, Kerry Pogue, & Lee Cope. Other volunteers who contribute to the club’s success include Misty Seaford (Lead County Coordinator), Lacinda English (Assistant County Coordinator), the 4-Hers’ parent/guardians and grandparents, and other family members.

The Marshall County 4-H Sharp Shooters are winding down their year and will start again in February/March 2025. The group practices at the Calvert City Gun Club. The Sharp Shooters will send notices out to the schools and newspapers when they have their first meeting of the year typically sometime in late March to early April. Marshall County youth between the ages of 9-18 and their parent/guardians are welcome to attend the club’s informational meeting to learn more.
