Marshall County (4-4) earned a district sweep over Christian Fellowship (5-8) after beating the Lady Eagles 3-1 (20-25, 25-12, 25-7, 25-16) in their second of two regular season matches. The Lady Marshals won the first of the two battles with their Hwy. 68 neighbor 3-0 on August 27.
A focused CFS squad opened the first set on a kill by Abby Miller and extended their lead out to 5-1 on a kill by Jenna Neal. The Lady Marshals closed the gap down to three at 17-14 on a kill by Catherine Shelton but the Lady Eagles would stretch their lead back out to six at 21-15 on two straight attack points by Miller. CFS went on to take set one 25-20.
Flipping the script in set two, it was the Lady Marshals who jumped out to an early 7-1 lead and extended it to 14-4 on kills by Kylie Merrick and Laney Yates. Down 18-5, CFS put together a 6-0 run behind the serving of Miller to trim the Lady Marshals lead to 18-11. Marshall County finished out the second set 25-12 on the powerful serves of Maleah Terry.
Consistent serving came into play for the Lady Marshals again in set three. They pushed their lead out to 20-5 behind a run of serves by Olivia Hawkins and went on to take the set win 25-7.
Set four was made up of long extended rallies after the Lady Marshals jumped out to a 15-5 lead. Kills by Miller and Kyndal Owen helped trim the score to 22-16 for CFS but the Lady Marshals went on to take the set 25-16 for the 3-1 win.
The Lady Marshals were led in kills by Hawkins with 10, Shelton had nine, Merrick seven and Yates with four. Emma Reynolds led in assists with 26. In digs, Hadley Barrett had 22 and Terry 15. Hawkins had four aces.
The Lady Eagles were led in kills by Neal with nine, Miller had seven and Owen with six. Emily Perez had 17 assists.
Next up for the Lady Marshals is a game at Graves County (4-4) on Thursday. Christian Fellowship will play at Carlisle County (10-8) on Thursday.
