John Lewis Dawson, 80 of Benton, KY, passed away Monday, June 17, 2024, at University of Louisville Jewish Hospital, Louisville, KY.

Born in Long Beach, CA on August 6, 1943, John was the son of the late Jack Lewis Dawson and Kathryn “Kay” (Washburn) Litchfield. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout in his youth, completed his bachelor’s degree at Brigham Young University and a master’s degree in economics, at Long Beach State University in southern California. John retired after 27 years as an executive for BMW of North America, Inc. in New Jersey.

After retirement, John enjoyed many hobbies including genealogical research of his own ancestry, then helping many others in their family research. He was also an expert gardener, who shared the abundant harvests with others as canned goods, or baked into a delicious dessert, like his no-sugar chocolate zucchini cake. John was the chief elf for the family at Christmas and was always able to find just the right gift to surprise each member.

Also surviving are great nieces and nephews, Kyla Mitchell of Louisville, KY, Christian Reed, Trace Reed, Kyson Reed and Kaydence Reed, all of Murray, KY; step great niece Calyssa Stallings; and step great nephew Camber Stallings.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, James Walter Dawson; sister Laura Jean Wolf; and nephew Garry Larsen.
