Track teams kick off season at Eastern Indoors in Louisville

Joining top track and field athletes from across the state at the Eastern Indoors, the Marshall County team competed in their first indoor meet of the season over the weekend held at the Norton’s Healthcare Sports and Learning Center in Louisville.

School records, top performances, indoor personal records and two top 10’s were all recorded by the boys’ team.

Senior Tyler Orlandi broke his own indoor school records in the 60 and 200 meters. Orlandi ran the 60 meters in 7.20 and placed in the top 20 in the 200 meters in 22.93.

Sophomore Kobey Yates broke a 25-year-old school record in the indoor two-mile run with 9:52.65 while knocking 14 seconds off of his personal best time.

Sophomore Deegan Croley opened his sophomore season with two top 10’s. Croley placed sixth in the weight throw with 45-05.25 and ninth in shot put with 46-10.75. The marks ranked second all-time in program history.

More top results came from Aiden Dunigan who placed 11th in the long jump with 18-03.75 and 16th in triple jump with 38-08.50. Zander Maxlow finished the 200 meters with a time of 23.18.

The 4 x 800 relay team placed second in 3:30.53 with team members Orlandi, Maxlow, Cade Sorrells and Isaac Hodges. It was the second fastest indoor time in school history in the event.

Two from the girls’ team made the trip to the Eastern Indoors. Senior Bailey Allred recorded two top 10 finishes in the shot put and weight throw. She placed second in weight throw with 40-01.50 and eighth in shot put with a distance of 33-06.00.

Junior Addison Lyles had a strong start to her track season, finishing the mile in 5:34.04.

Senior Presley Gallimore competed in the Louisville Indoor Games on February 3, setting two new indoor school records in the 200 and 400 meters. Gallimore ran the 200 in 27.46 and the 400 in 1:02.46.

The team will compete this weekend in the President’s Day Invite in Louisville.
