Walker Jones signed on Wednesday at Marshall County High School to continue running cross country and track at Centre College under Head Coach Lisa Owen. Centre College is a member of the Southern Athletic Association.
Walker has competed for the Marshall County programs for four years and last season claimed Class 3A 2nd Team All-Area 1 honors for his performances in the 1600 meters.
“Walker deserves this opportunity to continue the sport which he has loved for many years while furthering his education”, said Head Coach Andrew Johnston. “Walker epitomizes what track and field is all about. He loves his craft and is willing to run any event to benefit his team. Walker is a tireless worker and I am proud of the student athlete he has matured into.”
Walker currently holds a hall of fame performance as a member of the 4 x 1600 meter relay with a time of 19:45.44. The fourth best time in program history along with his former teammates Ethan McCarty, Samuel Lanham and Sawyer Collins.
Walker credits many that have supported his success including his teammates, parents Jason and Kelly, sister Alec and all of his friends and coaches who have supported him along the way.
“Walker’s contributions to the program have been outstanding while at Marshall County, but he is not finished yet,” Johnston said. We expect huge things from him during this, his senior season. If the off-season work is any indication, we know he will have a tremendous year. We are beyond proud of what Walker has done and will do. Our goal here at Marshall County Track is to ‘leave your mark’ and there isn’t any doubt of the impact Walker has had on this team. We wish him way more than luck.”
Joining Walker on his signing day were family members, coaches, the track and cross country teams and friends.
