FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Extensive signal wiring repairs to take about 3 hours to complete

MURRAY, Ky. (April 10, 2023) — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) plans to close the Five Points intersection in Murray starting around 10 a.m., CDT, today.

A contractor attempted to repair damage to the signal wiring system caused by recent high winds.  However, there were so many broken wires that more extensive repairs will be required.  The work will require the intersection to be closed to all traffic starting about 10 a.m.  The closure is expected to be in place for about three hours or until approximately 1 p.m.

There will be no marked detour.

The signal is functional at this time.  However, all legs of the intersection will have to be closed to allow several bucket trucks and extra personnel to replace the substantial amount of damaged signal wiring.

The Five Points intersection is at the northwest corner of the Murray State University Campus.  It includes KY 1326/Chestnut Street/College Farm Road, KY 748/North 16th Street, and KY 774/Coldwater Road.

KYTC District 1 will attempt to provide timely updates should the work have to be extended beyond 1 p.m.
