Lady Marshals top Christian County, lose in extra innings to Calloway County

Freshman Macy McLeod leading off of second base against Calloway County on Tuesday. McLeod hit a 2-run double against Calloway County and was 3-for-4 at the plate against Christian County on Monday.

The Lady Marshals began the week at Christian County in Hopkinsville on Monday. Trailing the Lady Colonels 2-0 after one inning, they scored a massive 11 runs in the top of the third inning and added three more in the fourth to lead 14-2 on their way to a 14-8 win.

Christian County’s Karlee Crick hit a 2-run home run to put them on the board in the first inning before it was overshadowed by the Lady Marshals next at bat.

The inning began on a walk by Chloe Coursey and hits by Chevelle Henson and Merriel Jackson that brought in the first of 11 runs. Hits by Marin Oakley and Macy McLeod brought in two more. Oakley scored on a passed ball and McLeod on a single by Madyson Morton and the lead was 5-2.

Another passed ball brought Emma Reynolds across the plate, Coursey’s single brought in Morton, Henson hit a 2-run double then scored run number 11 on a sacrifice by Jackson.

In the top of the third, they loaded the bases on a walk by Morton, Anna Vasseur single and intentional walk to Allicen Harris. Coursey drew a walk to bring Morton to the plate and a single by Henson brought two baserunners in for a 14-3 lead.

The Lady Colonels kept chipping away, adding one run in the bottom of the inning, two runs in the fourth and three in the sixth.

Harris earned the complete game win from the circle with nine strikeouts while allowing 13 hits and eight runs scored.

Junior Gracelyn Darnall pitched the first four and a third innings against Calloway County and drove in the tying run in the seventh inning that sent the game into an extra inning.

Tuesday on their home field, the Lady Marshals led Calloway County 2-1 after four innings before the Lady Lakers took the lead with two runs in the top of the fifth. The Lady Marshals tied it up at 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings.

Calloway County took a 4-3 lead in the top of the eighth and in the bottom of the inning, the tying run was on second for the Lady Marshals after Marin Oakley hit a double, but she was left stranded with the final out of the game.

The Lady Marshals 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second came on a double hit by Macy McLeod. Carson McReynolds hit a solo home run to lead off the top of the fourth for the Lady Lakers and they took a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning on a 2-run single off the bat of Emerson Grogan.

With Anna Vasseur and Allicen Harris on with singles in the bottom of the seventh, Gracelyn Darnall’s RBI single tied the game to send it to the eighth inning.

Emerson Grogan pitched all eight innings for Calloway County to earn the win. She struck out five, allowed nine hits and three runs.

Darnall pitched the first four and a third innings, allowed three runs on nine hits and struck out five. Harris went three and two-thirds innings, striking out four, allowing one run and three hits.

Up next is a trip to Paducah on Thursday to play McCracken County who is off to a 6-0 start.
