Volunteers make Clarks River National Wildlife Refuge’s Annual Litter Day a Success

Approximately 40 volunteers attended the 2023 Clarks River National Wildlife Refuge Litter Day on Saturday March 4th. The volunteers, alongside refuge staff, were able to clean up a much-needed site in Marshall County. The focus of the cleanup efforts was focused on a site adjacent to land managed by Clarks River National Wildlife Refuge and will soon be a part of the Refuge.

Volunteers included local citizens as well as a large group from Murray State University including The Wildlife Society.

To show how much their time and efforts were appreciated, The Friends of Clarks River National Wildlife Refuge provided each volunteer with a tee shirt and a wildlife poster.

This event is held each year during the late winter. For those interested in participating in the future, contact Clarks River National Wildlife Refuge at 270-527-5770 to be added to a contact list.

Clarks River National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1997 to provide essential nesting and migration habitat for migratory birds and protect a diminished habitat type referred to as bottomland hardwood forest. While it is one of over 560 National Wildlife Refuges across the country, it is the only refuge in the state of Kentucky. The refuge currently owns approximately 10,000 acres located in Marshall, McCracken, and Graves Counties.
