On January 17, 2023 at approximately 7:00 PM, deputies from the Graves County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a single vehicle, injury collision on KY 303 near Cuba.  Deputy Ben Doran’s investigation showed that Casey Dunaway, 28 of the Cuba area, was northbound on KY 303 operating a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado.  A deer crossed Dunaway’s path and he was unable to avoid colliding with the deer. Dunaway’s vehicle struck the deer and then crossed the southbound lane of KY 303.  Dunaway then collided with a guardrail and ran off the roadway into a creek, coming to rest on its driver’s side.  Due to striking the guardrail, Dunaway received a serious leg injury.  Deputy Doran was able to place a tourniquet on Dunaway’s leg until Mayfield / Graves County EMS arrived on the scene.

Dunaway was transported from the scene by Mayfield / Graves County EMS to the Lebanon Church of Christ parking lot. He was then air lifted to a Nashville, TN area hospital for treatment of his injuries.  Dunaway was the only occupant in his vehicle and no other vehicles were involved in the collision.

Deputy Doran was assisted at the scene by Deputy Zac Smith, Deputy Garret Clark, the Kentucky State Police, Mayfield / Graves County EMS, the Cuba Fire Department, the Sedalia Fire Department, Kentucky Fish and Wildlife and Air Evac.
