Marshall County 4-H Sharp Shooters compete in Kentucky 4-H Shooting Sports Competition

Marshall County 4-H Sharp Shooters who competed in Saturday events at the State 4-H Shoot on September 10th. Coaches L-R Patrick Westerfield, Morgan Westerfield (Teen), Kyle English, Marty Barrett, and Lacinda English (County Coordinator).

After not having a full 4-H Shooting Sports year since 2019, there were 24 Marshall County 4-H Sharp Shooters members who competed in the 2022 Kentucky 4-H Shooting Sports Competition on Saturday, September 10th in Wilmore and Sunday, September 11th in Berea, KY. They were joined by almost 1,000 4-Hers from counties across Kentucky in this two-day shooting sports competition.

The 4-H Sharp Shooters brought home several awards/recognitions including:

  • BB Rifle Team 9-11 – 1st Place – Skylar Seaford, Anna Grace English, Thatcher Newnum, & Henley Frizzell
  • BB Rifle Team 12-14 – 2nd Place –Brighton Newnum, Wiley English, Kaden Seaford, & Macee Pruitt
  • Air Pistol 9-11 Team – 2nd Place – Skylar Seaford, Thatcher Newnum, Cayson McLeod, & Anna Grace English
  • 22 Pistol Team 12-14 – 2nd Place – Wiley English, Robert (Riley) Bradley, Hunter Frizzell, & Kaden Seaford
  • Shotgun/Trap 12-14 Team – 2nd Place – Wiley English, Hunter Frizzell, Robert (Riley) Bradley, Brighton Newnum, & Kaden Seaford
  • Shotgun/Trap 15-18 Team – 2nd Place – Carter Beliles, Dalton Smith, Ian Kidd, Colby Byars, & Thomas (T.R.) Barrett
  • 22 Sport Rifle 12-14 Individual Top 10 – 1st – Wiley English and 4th – Brighton Newnum
  • Air Pistol 9-11 Individual Top 10 – 3rd – Skylar Seaford and 6th – Thatcher Newnum
  • Air Pistol 15-18 Individual Top 10 – 3rd – Thomas (T.R.) Barrett, 4th – Travis Jameson, and 8th – Emma Story
  • Archery Compound Barebow 15-18 Individual Top 10 – 3rd – Sophie Holbrook
  • BB Rifle 9-11 Individual Top 10 – 4th – Anna Grace English, 5th – Skylar Seaford & 7th – Thatcher Newnum
  • BB Rifle 12-14 Individual Top 10 – 3rd – Brighton Newnum and 5th – Wiley English
  • Shotgun/Trap 12-14 Individual Top 10 – 1st – Wiley English, 6th – Robert (Riley) Bradley, and 10th – Hunter Frizzell
  • Shotgun/Trap 15-18 Individual Top 10 – 8th – Carter Beliles

Marshall County 4-H Sharp Shooters – Gracen Newnum, Lainee Siegle, Morgan Westerfield, Elle Holbrook, and Isabelle Geno – also participated in events during the State 4-H Shoot. For several of the members this was their first State Shoot or had not been since 2019. Several shot personal bests during Saturday and Sunday events.

The 4-Hers in Archery are coached by Patrick Westerfield and Teen Coach—Morgan Westerfield. Rifle and BB Coaches are Kyle English and Malissa Ferguson. Pistol coach is Marty Barrett. Shotgun (Trap) Coaches include Lee Cope and Josh Smith. Other volunteers who contribute to the club’s success include Lacinda English (County Coordinator), the 4-Hers’ parent/guardians and grandparents, and other family members.

The Marshall County 4-H Sharp Shooters are winding down their year and will start again in February/March 2023. The group practices at the Calvert City Gun Club. The Sharp Shooters will send notices out to the schools and newspapers when they have their first meeting of the year typically sometime in mid March to early April. Marshall County youth between the ages of 9-18 and their parent/guardians are welcome to attend the club’s informational meeting to learn more.
