Four in a row, Marshals win 2nd District title

The Marshals celebrate another district championship and their fourth straight following a 5-1 win over Calloway County Thursday in Murray.

The Marshals won their fourth consecutive 2nd District title and 24th in program history with Thursday’s 5-1 win over Calloway County. Raising the trophy was the goal, but the Marshals celebration was subdued, knowing their bigger goal will be to lift another trophy next week with the first step coming on Monday in the regional tournament semi-final at McCracken County against St. Mary.

Marshall County advanced to the title game after Tuesday’s 3-0 win over Mayfield. The Lakers were coming off a 2-1 win over Murray that went to PK’s the night before.

In a repeat of Tuesday’s semi-final against Mayfield, Collin Riley scored four minutes in for a quick 1-0 lead and less than three minutes later, Collin Shadowen put the Marshals up 2-0.

Blevins said the quick goal was a good start for the team, “We’ve been doing that all year but especially tonight…they (Calloway) played 90 minutes last night so I knew they would probably come in a little tight. If we could jump on them pretty early, maybe get one or two and just pressure them, and that’s exactly what we did and I was proud of them.”

Back-to-back goals by Logan Parker pushed the lead out to 4-0 but Calloway would notch a goal by Bo Stom before the half to give the Lakers a slim hope of getting back in the game.

The five first half goals looked to be all the scoring until Jericho Evans scored the Marshals fifth goal with three minutes remaining.

Assist on goals went to Jericho Evans, John Wood, William Lynch and Jeremy Jaco.

Collin Riley, William Lynch, John Wood, Logan Davis and Collin Shadowen all earned All-District Team selections. Also selected to the team, Ryan Hayden (Graves), John Pardo (Graves), Emiliano Garcia (Mayfield), Verando Tomas (Mayfield), Connor Blalock (Murray), Chase Renick (Murray), Josh Eaton (Murray), Jude Bazzell (Calloway), Bo Stom (Calloway), Ethan Carson (Calloway), Hunter Prince (Calloway).
