Mona Yarbrough Atherton, 63, of La Center, passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at Ray & Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center.
She was born in Benton on March 21, 1958 to Vernon and Elizabeth Wofford Gamble. Mona was the director of the Marshall County Senior Citizens Center until she retired. She was an active and devoted member of Southland Baptist Temple. Mona dedicated her life to serving the Lord, she loved to sing gospel songs, witness to those she met, participate in Ladies Living Free, jail ministries, and Unleashed ministries. She cherished every moment she was able to spend surrounded by her family, including her church family.
Mona is survived by her husband, Larry Atherton; 3 daughters, Stephanie Young (Matt Bell) of Hickory, Monica McIntosh (Cary) of Lovelaceville, and Jessica Stokes (Mason Baker) of Bandana, as well as countless “Bonus” daughters; one son, Mitchell Atherton (Paula) of Champagne, Illinois; three sisters, Vyra Campbell, Myra Stice, and Carol Sheperd; thirteen grandchildren, Chevy Trover, Bristol Trover, Chasidy Dowdy, Valerie McIntosh, Alex McIntosh, Dalton Bell, Katie Bell, Austin Atherton, Lexi Atherton, Katie Duncan, Madison Stokes, Riley Stokes, and Conner Baker; three great grandchildren, Markel Dowdy, Grayson Dunning, and Garrett Dunning.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Elizabeth Gamble; one sister, Gail Coffenberry; and two brothers, Ricky Gamble and Tommy Gamble.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 1, 2021 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Bro. Jimmy Franks and Bro. Greg Jones officiating.
Burial will follow the funeral service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
