Lady Marshals win in straight sets over CFS

Tuesday was the third match of the season between district foes Marshall County and Christian Fellowship. Two regular season matches and one meeting in the championship game at wRECk the Plex in Hopkinsville.

The Lady Marshals beat the Lady Eagles 3-1 (21-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-22) at home on Sept. 2. CFS won 2-1 (25-17, 23-25, 15-11) to take the wRECk the Plex championship two days later on Sept. 4 and Tuesday at CFS, the Lady Marshals won in straight sets 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-18).

Halle Langhi led in kills with 14 and Sarah Bremmerkamp had seven. Langhi is ranked eighth in the state in kills with 230 through 50 sets of play. Annie Beard had 26 assists. Ashley Bremmerkamp led in digs with 21, Maddie Irvan had 14 and Sarah Bremmerkamp 13.

CFS was led in kills by Lillian Burnett with 11 and Cordia Hood with six. Rhema Howard had 19 assists and Jayden Jackson and Burnett led in digs with 10 each.

The Lady Marshals improve to 11-4 overall, 10-4 against regional opponents and are 3-0 in the 4th District. Marshall County currently ranks 16th among 273 teams in KHSAA RPI rankings. With the loss, CFS is 16-9, 9-6 in the region and 3-3 in district play.

The win was a nice rebound for the Lady Marshals after a 3-1 (25-17, 17-25, 25-23, 25-22) loss to Paducah Tilghman (12-6) the day before.

CFS recently made a run to the championship game of the 1st Region All “A” Classic before falling to Ballard Memorial 2-0. They won five games on Sept. 11 to advance to the title game, beating Mayfield 2-0, St. Mary 2-0, Fulton County 2-1, Carlisle County 2-0 and CCA 2-1. They followed that up with a second place finish in the KCAC Tournament. They beat Portland Christian 2-1, Heritage Christian 2-1 before falling to Trinity Christian Academy 3-1 in the championship. Lilian Griggs and Lily Burnett were selected to the KCAC All Tournament Team.
