Final Surface Paving along U.S. 62 between I-24 Exit 27 and KY Dam Village State Park starts Wednesday, May 6

PADUCAH, Ky. (May 4, 2020) — A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans a final round of asphalt paving along the U.S. 62 work zone in Marshall County between Calvert city and Kentucky Dam Village State Park starting Wednesday, May 6, 2020.

This work zone runs along US 62 from mile point 8.8 at the I-24 Exit 27 Interchange extending eastward to mile point 10.8 near the U.S. 62/US 641 Interchange, a distance of about 2 miles. The project includes widening the roadway travel lanes, a center turn lane, decorative median landscaping, and a multi-use trail that interconnects with trails in Calvert City and at Kentucky Dam Village.

The initial round of finish paving will start along the multi-use trail. Weather permitting, sometime early next week paving will move to the main line of U.S. 62 and continue through the week until completed.

Motorists traveling this section of U.S. 62 should be alert for trucks hauling asphalt and other materials into the work zone. Motorists should pay close attention to flaggers controlling traffic flow and truck access. Some delays are possible during the movement and placement of equipment to facilitate the work.

Once paving of the final driving surface is completed, the contractor will have some ongoing landscaping and other finish work.

This work zone has a strictly enforced 35 mile per hour speed limit. Appropriate caution is required where equipment, flaggers, and construction personnel are along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.

Jim Smith Contracting of Grand Rivers is the prime contractor on this $5.8 million project. Work started in July, 2018. The project is about 95% complete.
