The National Weather Service in Paducah has released a summary of storm damage surveys from last weekend’s weather events across the region.
In the report, they say an EF1 tornado with winds reaching 80 mph was likely responsible for damage near the 641 Exit along I-69 in Marshall County early Saturday morning. Downed trees and a roof ripped from a barn in the area was the only damage along the path of the tornado. The tornado traveled along a route of about 2.3 miles at 5:42 a.m. The NWS said straight line winds were likely responsible for other damage caused by the storm in the area.
Near Briensburg Tatumsville Road in Tatumsville a carport was blown into a neighbor’s yard and shingles were blown from rooftops. That damage, says the NWS, was likely from thunderstorm winds.
Walmart was closed for a time on Saturday after a partial roof collapse. Again, the NWS cites thunderstorm winds as the likely cause of that damage.
A preliminary report also says a tornado touched down in the Redd Hollow area of Land Between the Lakes, with damage continuing south of Wrangler’s Campground. Peak winds of 105 mph traveled along a 75-yard path for 4.4 miles, uprooting and snapping trees in its path.
In all, eight tornadoes touched down in western Kentucky Saturday morning.
