PADUCAH, Ky. (Oct 14, 2019) — Concrete curb and gutter work along a closed a section of U.S. 45/Joe Clifton Drive in the Carson Park area of Paducah that started September 3 is progressing slower than expected. The target completion date for the roadway rehabilitation project is being extended by two weeks to Saturday, October 26, 2019.
U.S. 45/Joe Clifton Drive (28th Street) remains closed from the Jefferson Street intersection at mile point 10.343 extending northward to the intersection with Laclede Avenue/H.C. Mathis Drive at mile point 10.802 for major roadway rehabilitation.
Through a cooperative agreement with the City of Paducah, there is a marked detour via Jefferson Street, 21st Street, and U.S. 60-Business/Park Avenue. Local access is being maintained via side streets.
Monroe Street, Madison Street, Harrison Street, Clay Street, and Trimble Street will also continue to be closed where they intersect the U.S. 45/Joe Clifton Drive construction zone.
Once the rehabilitation work is completed, the traffic configuration along this section will be reworked. Two outside bike lanes will be added with one travel lane in each direction and a center turn lane. This new traffic configuration will provide wider travel lanes, improve traffic flow, and improve safety by reducing the number of rear-end crashes.
About 12,500 vehicles travel this section of U.S.45/Joe Clifton Drive in the Carson Park area in an average day.
Jim Smith Contracting is the prime contractor on this $1.2 million highway improvement project. Again, the target completion date is now October 26, 2019.
