Public meeting to discuss U.S. 641 reconstruction in Calloway County scheduled for March 12th
Murray, KY (March 6, 2019)- – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) in cooperation with the Tennessee Department of Transportation has scheduled a Public Informational Meeting on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at the Hazel Baptist Church Gymnasium to discuss reconstruction of U.S. 641 in southern Calloway County.
The project is focused on improved safety and mobility along the U.S. 641 Corridor between the Tennessee State Line at milepoint 0.0 and the Clarks River Bridge at milepoint 5.66, just south of Murray.
According to KYTC District 1 Chief Engineer Kyle Poat, construction is expected to begin along the Kentucky portion of the project in late 2020, with improvements in Tennessee likely to advance on a different schedule.
“We’re asking anyone who lives along the U.S. 641 Corridor, or who travels this section of US 641, to attend this public meeting to provide input on the design and route of this new four-lane highway,” Poat said. “Our KYTC engineers and design staff will be sharing a number of options for the corridor through southern Calloway County that will be of public interest.”
The Public Meeting will include a brief presentation providing an overview of the project and alternatives under consideration. Attendees will have the opportunity to provide comments. KYTC officials will be available to answer questions related to the project, including right of way, environmental considerations and historic properties.

The existing two-lane roadway will be widened to a new four-lane highway that meets current design standards. The completion of the corridor will provide a critical transportation link by connecting Calloway County to I-40 and Paris, Tennessee. The project will improve safety for commuters while unlocking economic development opportunities for the rural southwestern Kentucky region.
Approximately 6,000 vehicles travel the section of U.S. 641 between Murray and Hazel in an average day.
