A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans an eastbound overnight closure on Interstate 24 on Sunday, November 11, 2018.
Eastbound traffic on Interstate 24 will be closed at the 30 mile marker starting at 7:00 p.m., CST, Sunday, to allow a concrete pour as part of joint installation work on the Tennessee River Bridge.
During this overnight closure of I-24 eastbound, message boards will direct traffic to detour via US 62 eastbound and KY 453 Northbound. While traffic volume along I-24 drops off around 7:00 p.m., a substantial delay is possible. Motorists traveling from the Paducah area to Nashville should consider a detour along I-69 southbound to US 68 eastbound to rejoin I-24 at Cadiz Exit 65.
Motorists who regularly travel these detour corridors should be alert for heavier than normal traffic Sunday night into Monday morning.
I-24 eastbound traffic is expected to reopen at 6:00 a.m., CST, on Monday, November 12th.
This planned eastbound closure on the I-24 Tennessee River Bridge at the 30 mile marker should have no impact on westbound traffic along I-24. As a reminder, westbound traffic continues to be restricted to one lane in the I-24 Tennessee River Bridge work zone.
This is the first of several overnight closures that will be required during installation of new joints on the bridge.
American Contracting & Services of Jeffersonville, IN, is the prime contractor on this $1.1 Million bridge joint replacement project.
The Interstate 24 Tennessee River Bridges are twin tied arch suspension bridges at mile point 29.352 at the Marshall-Livingston County Line.
The 2,017 ft. bridges with a 534 ft. main span are also known as the Luther Draffen Bridge. The bridges opened to traffic in 1974. The structure carries approximately 30,000 vehicles across the Tennessee River in an average day.
