Lady Marshals pick up wins over Hopkinsville and Boyle County

Carmen Gunn, pictured against Murray August 28th, scored the first two goals for the Lady Marshals in their 3-1 win over Boyle County.

The Lady Marshals shut out Hopkinsville 4-0 on Tuesday on 18 shots, 12 of those on goal. Goals came from Hope Howard with the first at 3:11 into the game followed by a goal by Kylee Crass at 5:28 into the first half. Chasse Clark scored the third goal of the first half with just under seven left on the clock.

Crass scored the fourth goal for the Lady Marshals at the 15:07 mark in the second half on an assist by Lindy King. Carlen Whirley had two saves in the shutout, while Hopkinsville keeper Mallory Smithson came up with eight saves. The Lady Marshals defensive effort held Hopkinsville to just two shots in the game, both of those were on goal.

Only one game was completed in the scheduled Lady Marshals Classic scheduled for Friday and Saturday. The Lady Marshals beat Boyle County 3-1 Friday evening before all Saturday games were canceled due to weather conditions.

All four goals in the game were scored in the second half, the first two by Carmen Gunn at 13:27 and 25:24. Hope Howard made it a 3-0 game scoring at 28:38 on an assist by Tori Ford. Boyle avoided the shutout, scoring at the end of the game on a penalty kick.

The Lady Marshals had 11 shots, seven on goal and three corners. Boyle had seven shots, five on goal and four corners. They improve to 6-4,

Tuesday at home, the Lady Marshals will play their second district game against Murray (4-6). They lost to the Lady Tigers 2-1 at Murray on August 28th.
