Michael Gordon has filed papers to run on the Republican ticket for the position of Marshall County Coroner. Following is his letter stating his intentions and his experience in the healthcare industry.
I am running for Coroner as I believe the Office of the Coroner should be an independent government agency. I believe the Coroner and staff ought to be medically trained, trained in law enforcement, and emergency management. I believe that we as a county should not expect a private industry to provide the county with office space, the morgue facilities, and other tools of the office. I am old enough to remember when we as taxpayers in Marshall County required our deputies to provide their own cars, weapons, and uniforms. Today, We would never accept that, nor would we expect the jailer to provide their own jail cells. We as tax payers should expect the same independence of the coroner’s office nor should we expect nor accept the coroner to provide the tools necessary to complete the mandates of the office as outlined by the Kentucky Constitution.
I have over 20 years in the healthcare industry including experience in Emergency and trauma care. In 2017 I was elected by my fellow nurses in Kentucky to the Cabinet for Governmental Affairs of the Kentucky Nurses Association.
I am trained in the community disaster health care task force to be on call to assist as needed in a community disaster.
I have been married for 32 years to Carmen (Bone) Gordon. We have one son Eli currently serving the United States in the USAF.
My education and certifications include:
Board Certified Advance Practice Registered Nurse ( APRN) (2017)
