Single-car crash on I-24 yields drug arrest

A single-car crash on Interstate 24 has resulted in a drug arrest.

According to Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, on Wednesday, Nov. 22 deputies responded to a single-car crash with injury at the construction zone on I-24 near Calvert City. Upon arrival, deputies found the driver, Ryan D’Angelo, has struck a concrete barricade in the construction zone. D’Angelo was reportedly disoriented, confused and appeared nervous to police.

Deputies then found D’Angelo allegedly attempting to conceal drugs in the back floorboard of the vehicle.

Deputies initiated a search on D’Angelo’s vehicle and allegedly found marijuana, butane hash oil — or marijuana butter — Xanax, more than 10 grams of methamphetamine, digital scales with meth residue and plastic baggies. Police also found $600 cash in the car.

D’Angelo was arrested on suspicion of DUI, first offense; first-degree possession of a controlled substance, first offense; first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance; possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of marijuana; third-degree possession of a controlled substance; trafficking in legend drugs, first offense; tampering with physical evidence; and trafficking in marijuana, fewer than 8 ounces.

D’Angelo was taken to the Marshall County Detention Center.
