Mr. Benny F. Mitchell, 82, of Benton, died on Monday, Oct. 9, 2017, at Marshall County Hospital in Benton.

Born Sunday, Dec. 30, 1934, in Paducah, he was the son of the late Benjamin F. Mitchell and the late Alvesta (Sills) Mitchell.

Mr. Mitchell was a graduate of Augusta Tilghman High School and played basketball and baseball. He was retired manager from Paducah Beer Distributors, was a veteran of the US Army and was a member of Hamlet Baptist Church. He was an avid UK basketball fan, he was undefeated at cornhole. In 1953 he was signed to play in the farm system of the Cleveland Indians. In his later years, he was a grounds supervisor at Hillman Ferry Campground. He was the best dad and papa ever.

Surviving are his children, Elizabeth Carol Callihan, husband Jerry of Benton, Debbie Guinn, husband Dewayne of Paducah, Benny F. Mitchell Jr., (Little Man),
wife Jeannie of Benton, Lucinda Barnett, husband Terry of Cadiz, Timmy Crenshaw of Paducah; sister, Shirley Holt of Symsonia; grandchildren, Bradley, Robyn, Nick, Corey, Courtney, Caleb, Magan, Jeffrey, Sami, Brandon, Amanda, Timberly, Derek, Hannah; and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Jane L. Mitchell; second wife, Fairy Mae Mitchell; daughter, Kate Mitchell; sister, Kay Rothgeb; and aunt, Dorothy McKinney.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 13, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Collier Funeral Home in Benton. Rev. Glenn Cope and Rev. Jeff Collins will
officiate.

Interment will follow the service in Hamlet Cemetery in Benton.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017, at Collier Funeral Home, 211 West 5th St., Benton, KY 42025.
