Marshall County hosts areas best runners at Invitational

Nearly 1,000 runners lined up from Elementary through Varsity at Saturday’s Marshall County Invitational. Henry County’s Titus Winders and Owensboro’s Breanna Alderton won the boy’s and girl’s Varsity division. Middle School division winners were Marshall County’s Samuel Lanham and Madisonville’s Joy Alexander. In the Elementary division, first place went to Owen Grogan of Concord Elementary and Daviess County’s Bentlei Stallings.

The boy’s Varsity race had a field of 312 runners and 25 different teams. Henry County took the team title, Apollo was second and Marshall County third. The girl’s Varsity field was 195 strong, won by Jackson High School, second went to Daviess County, third to Notre Dame of Cape Girardeau and Marshall County placed 12th. The team from Daviess County won the boy’s Middle School division while the girl’s from Daviess County took first.

Titus Winders first place time of 16:10.80 in the boy’s Varsity race was followed closely by brother Silas Winders who finished in second with 16:20.53 and third place went to Wes Grogan of McCracken County with 16:41.28. Mason Cosner recorded the fastest time for the Marshals, finishing 11th in 17:22.80.

Following Owenboro’s Alderton in the girl’s varsity race, second place went to Alaina Baumgart of Notre Dame of Cape Girardeau and the third place finisher was McCracken County’s Maggie Aydt. Gabbi Lovett placed 42nd with the best Marshall County girl’s varsity finish in 23:28.51.

Lanham’s first place finishing time was 16:18.23 in the boy’s middle school 4,000m race which now ranks him first among middle school runners in the state while setting a new course record in the process and teammate Ethan McCarty is ranked third in the state. The top finish among Marshall County middle school girls came from Alexia Minter who finished second in 17:07.97 in a field of 112.
