Marshall County 911 director dismissed

Marshall County 911 Director Misti Drew presents the fiscal court feedback from a series of town hall meetings on 911 funding options in the county during a court meeting in May at the Marshall County Courthouse in Benton. Drew was dismissed from her position Tuesday.

Marshall County could soon be searching for a new 911 director.

Deputy Judge Brad Warning confirmed to Marshall County Daily that county 911 Director Misti Drew was dismissed from her position Tuesday evening.

Drew said she was told she “wasn’t meeting job performance expectations.” She declined to comment further on the record.

Those duties include, but are not limited to preparing annual department budgets, keeping the court informed of happenings within the department, preparing work schedules, ensuring subordinate employees within the department maintain required certifications and licensing and preparing supplemental policies and procedures in accordance with the county’s administrative code.

According to the county’s 911 enabling ordinance (2017-03) adopted earlier this year, appointing authority for the position and subordinate employees in the department is at the discretion of Marshall County Judge-Executive Kevin Neal, subject to fiscal court approval. The court had not been consulted on the matter as of Saturday, District 3 County Commissioner Rick Cocke said.

Drew has five business days — or until the close of business Tuesday — to appeal the decision, according to the county administrative code. Warning said as of Saturday she had not filed an appeal. Drew declined to comment on whether she intended to do so.

Drew, a former county commissioner, began her tenure with the department in 2015. Gov. Matt Bevin in August appointed Drew to serve on the state’s Animal Control Board as a representative of the Kentucky Association of Counties through February.
