According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, dispatchers received a call about 5:39 a.m. Thursday in reference to an injury accident and entrapment at the Possum Trot Quick Shop on Hwy. 62. Hackney semi from the eastbound lane when a passenger car traveling in the opposite direction failed to see part of the delivery truck still in the westbound lane of the roadway and struck the rear trailer of the semi.

The driver of the passenger car, Maria Carey, 76, of Gilbertsville, was taken to Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah for injuries suffered in the collision. Her female passenger, 52-year-old Rocio Carey, of Gilbertsville, died at the scene, according to MCSD.

Barnes suffered no injuries.
