KYTC reopens some ramps along Parkway, I-69 reconstruction project area

A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is reopening two ramp connections at the Julian Carroll-Purchase Parkway/US 45 Bypass Exit 21 interchange within in the I-69 interchange reconstruction project at Mayfield in Graves County.

The ramp openings restore some limited access between the Purchase Parkway and US 45 at the southwest edge of Mayfield. However, some ramps remain closed as work continues.

Northbound traffic on the Purchase Parkway will now be able to access the southbound lanes of the US 45 Bypass to reach US 45. Northbound traffic on the US 45 Bypass will now be able to access the northbound lanes of the Purchase Parkway.

This limited access arrangement will help some motorists and truckers to avoid traveling the detour along US 45 Business through Mayfield. However, the remaining connections will remain closed as work continues on the interchange reconstruction.  The ramp from the southbound lanes of the Purchase Parkway to the southbound US 45 Mayfield Bypass will remain closed.

Purchase Parkway southbound traffic wishing to reach US 45 South at Mayfield will have to continue traveling the detour via US 45 Business through Mayfield to make that connection. This limited access will aid some businesses and help reduce some of the traffic flow through Mayfield along the detour route.

Again the northbound Purchase Parkway ramp to southbound US 45 is now open. The northbound US 45 Bypass lane to the Purchase Parkway northbound lanes are open.

This work zone at Mayfield extends along the Purchase Parkway from about the 17 mile marker to about the 23 mile marker. The project area includes a 55 mph work zone speed limit with an enhanced enforcement presence and double fines for citations. Some ramps within the work zone are restricted to one lane with a 45 mph speed limit.

Jim Smith Contracting of Grand Rivers is the prime contractor on the $24.1 million reconstruction project aimed at bringing the existing interchanges up to current standards for Interstate 69. The total project has a target completion date of July 1, 2018.
