



Calloway County sheriff’s deputies and Kentucky State Police troopers are investigating an alleged marijuana distribution operation near Hazel after police say they discovered more than 9 pounds while responding to an unrelated call.
According to the Calloway County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at 11 p.m. Thursday to the 600 block of Green Plains Road in Hazel after a 911 caller reported shots fired in the area. Upon arrival, deputies identified that the location of the shots fired were at 668 Green Plains Road. An occupant of the residence answered the door and a strong odor of marijuana came from inside the residence, according to CCSO. The occupant initially stated that he did not know anything about shots being fired in the area nor at that residence, police said.
Further investigation revealed that shots had been fired earlier in the night, and there were multiple subjects at the residence, two of which allegedly fled out back windows of the home leading police on a foot pursuit.
Police obtained a search warrant for the home, which allegedly yielded about 9 pounds of processed marijuana. Police also reportedly discovered evidence to indicate there had been a larger amount of marijuana processed for sale and distribution in the county that had already moved from the residence. Two firearms and drug paraphernalia were discovered on scene as well, according to CCSO. One firearm allegedly had the serial number defaced.
In addition, a vehicle at the residence driven by the occupant allegedly had the wrong registration plate.
Kendric M. Lee, 21, of Murray, was arrested on suspicion of trafficking marijuana over 5 pounds, possession of drug paraphernalia and improper display of a registration plate. He was lodged in the Calloway County Detention Center and bonded out on a $5,000 cash bond. According to Kendric Lee, he was one of the two who had rented the residence at 668 Green Plains Road.
Jaleel D. Lee, 23, of Murray, was arrested on suspicion of trafficking marijuana over 5 pounds, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a defaced firearm. Jaleel Lee’s drug charges are firearms enhanced, which means they are Class B Felonies. Lee was lodged in the Calloway County Detention Center and was held on a $5,000 cash bond as of Friday night.
Jovante T. Hagan, 24, of Owensboro, was arrested on suspicion of trafficking marijuana over 5 pounds, possession of drug paraphernalia. Hagan was lodged in the Calloway County Detention Center and was held on a $5,000 cash bond as of Friday night.
Antwon R. Douglas, 26, of Owensboro, was arrested on suspicion of trafficking marijuana over 5 pounds, possession of drug paraphernalia. Douglas was lodged in the Calloway County Detention Center, where he was also being held on a $5,000 cash bond as of Friday night.
Additional charges on suspicion of fleeing and evading police are pending, according to CCSO.
The investigation is ongoing in the area of where the marijuana was purchased and the distribution operation in Calloway County that appears to have been going on for quite some time. The Calloway County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Kentucky State Police in the joint operation.
