Marcella’s Kitchen closes on new building, hosts ribbon cutting

Volunteers, supporters and friends of Marcella’s Kitchen gathered Friday for a special ribbon-cutting ceremony at the former Stilley Professional Building on George McClain Drive in Benton. The local nonprofit, a Marshall County community kitchen that seeks to feed those who might not otherwise have the means, closed on its new location today and celebrated by giving residents the opportunity to come and tour the new facility.

The building, which once housed doctors offices on the campus of the old Marshall County Hospital, will be renovated to house a new commercial, community kitchen. Marcella’s Kitchen has been located at the Draffenville Community Center since its inception in 2011. The new more centralized location, volunteers hope, will bring services to a greater number of residents in the county who need them.

Renovations could take about a year on the new location. Volunteers will continue to serve meals out of the Draffenville location until that time. The community kitchen presently serves lunch free to the public from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday in the center at 242 Griggstown Road.
