Two arrested after suspect flees traffic stop, leaving guns, drugs behind

Two local men were arrested Tuesday after police allege a suspect fled his vehicle from a traffic stop, leaving guns and drugs behind.

According to Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, deputies attempted to make a traffic stop Tuesday on old U.S. Highway 641 N., near the Ken Bar Inn in Gilbertsville. The driver fled the scene, taking the vehicle off road before abandoning it and running away. Deputies were unable to locate the driver at the scene, but reportedly discovered a number of firearms and illegal “controlled substances” within the vehicle.

Deputies and Marshall County Narcotics investigators continued the investigation, which led them to a nearby residence. Police executed a search warrant at 6827 Hwy. 641 N, and allegedly discovered methamphetamine, paraphernalia and evidence to suggest trafficking.

Police arrested Charles Grundy, 52, of Marshall County on suspicion of first-degree possession of a controlled substance, second offense and possession of paraphernalia. Deputies also arrested James Campbell, 45, of Marshall County on suspicion of first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), first offense and possession of paraphernalia. Both men were taken to Marshall County Detention Center.

Additional arrests and charges are pending, according to MCSD.

Calvert City Police Department and McCracken County Sheriff’s Office assisted during the course of the investigation.
