Officials clear Calvert City train derailment

emsBENTON, KY – (Nov 5, 2016) –  Local officials say all overturned tankers involved in Tuesday’s train derailment have been uprighted and removed.
The derailment occurred November 1, 2016 at approximately 10:00 PM Central. Local and state agencies were notified of a train derailment in Calvert City, Ky. involving eight rail cars. Numerous agencies responded and immediately verified no spills or leaks existed and no injuries were reported.
Investigation later revealed four were empty, two contained liquid Glycol, one contained liquid Ethylene and one contained Hydrogen Fluoride.
Multiple safety measures were initiated by various agencies throughout the recovery operation.
Marshall County Emergency Management Director Curtis Curtner said, “No spills or leaks were ever detected. Air and gauge monitoring near and on the rail cars was performed 24/7 until the scene was cleared.”
Weather conditions also were constantly monitored and plotted so if the need for shelter in place, or evacuation, was needed plans were ready.
The final rail car was safely removed from the scene Friday afternoon, November 4.
Curtner we went on to say it was a good team effort and all agencies performed exemplary.
