Longtime District 1 board member David Gilland has decided not to seek re-election.

Waters was the only candidate to file for the District 1 seat and will be unopposed on the November ballot.

Waters is married to Jenny Colson Waters, who is a Nurse Practitioner at Baptist Hospital in Paducah.

They have two children in the Marshall County School System, Reed, 11, and Anna 8. Waters has been employed by WCBL Radio since 1993, and has worked in advertising sales and has been the play-by-play announcer for Marshall County football and boys basketball since 1994.

He is a past president of the Rotary Club of Marshall County, and a past president of the Marshall County Athletic Foundation.

He was inducted into the Marshall County Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013.

Waters said, “A successful school system is something in which a community can take great pride. It also strengthens a community. There is no better example of that anywhere in Kentucky than Marshall County. I have seen firsthand many times during my almost 25-year association with Marshall County athletics the great love and sense of pride that exists for the school system, and the individual schools, from the citizens of Marshall County. If chosen by the voters, I look forward to serving, while also remembering that I will have much to learn. But I will always approach the position, and the decisions that have to be made while serving, with the best interests of the students and employees of the Marshall County School System foremost in my mind”.
