On Wednesday, August 10th 2016, deputies with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office were investigating suspects selling stolen utility trailers in Marshall County. Deputy Jason Ivey contacted Detective Sergeant Kevin Mighell to assist in the investigation. Sgt. Mighell arrived and made contact with the suspects which were attempting to sell a 16 ft. tandem axle trailer. The suspects were Joey Calhoun and Shellie Tidwell both from Tennessee. Deputies observed that the utility trailer had portions which had recently been spray painted black. Deputies located burglary tools inside the vehicle. Both suspects were arrested on drug charges. Deputies contacted a person from Marshall County that also had recently purchased a utility trailer from Joey Calhoun. The trailer that Mr. Calhoun had sold was reported stolen in Marshall County. Deputies recovered the stolen trailer and it is being returned to the victim. Detectives are coordinating with Tennessee and Kentucky law enforcement agencies to attempt to identify additional victims of the utility trailer thefts.
Joey Calhoun of Reeves, Tn. was charged with possession of controlled substance 1st degree-meth and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Shellie Tidwell of Union City, Tn. was charged with possession of controlled substance 1st degree-meth and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Both subjects were lodged in the Marshall County Jail. Mr. Calhoun will be charged with additional charges reference to the theft of the trailer. The investigation is continuing. On Wednesday, August 10th 2016, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office investigated an assault between father and son which occurred at 8123 Brewers Hwy. Benton, Ky. 42025 which led to the arrest of Kenneth Gordon for 4th degree assault by Deputy Jeff Daniel with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Daniel contacted Detective Sergeant Kevin Mighell to investigate a possible meth lab at the residence. Sgt. Mighell arrived at the scene and discovered a working meth lab. Sgt. Mighell charged Kenneth Gordon with additional charges for manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of controlled substance-meth and possession of drug paraphernalia. Another female was at the residence with Kenneth Gordon when deputies arrived.
A search of a residence at 8123 Brewers Hwy. in Benton, Ky., detectives discovered several coffee filters with methamphetamine, plastic baggies used in manufacture of meth, drain opener, methamphetamine generator bottle, starting fluid, instant cold packs, lithium battery casings, tin foil and glass meth pipe with meth residue. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed.
