MURRAY – Murray High swept the Area 1 Championships at Murray State Friday, winning both the girls and boys team titles. The Marshall County boys placed 3rd and the girls 5th among 15 teams.
Collin Gunn recorded the only 1st place finish for the Marshall County boys in the 800 meters, crossing the line in 2:01.41, two one-hundredths of a second ahead of Jacob Friedrich of Calloway County.
The boy’s 4 x 200 relay took 1st in a time of 1:33.41 with the team of Caleb Ferguson, Austin Shackleford, Jack Brown and Tieler Hamlet.
More top finishes came from Jackson Brown who placed 2nd in the 110 meter hurdles and 4th in 300 meter hurdles. Brown’s time in the 110 hurdles was 15.74 and his 300 hurdle time was 43.53. Kyle McClain crossed in 3rd in the 3200 meters in 10:55.63.
Leading Murray to their team victory, Des’jahvonni Miles took first in both the 100 and 200 meters and Malik Britt-Taylor was first in both the 11o and 300 meter high hurdles.
Audrey Grizzard and Sydney Temple took 2nd and 3rd in the pole vault, both with a height of 8-06. Fourth place performances were turned in by Jordyn Ray in the 1600 in 6:01.16, Tori McCracken took 4th in the high jump with 4-10 and Kirsten Walker in the shot put with a throw of 28-02.50.
Hopkinsville sophomore Avery O’Hara was a 2-time winner on Friday in the 100 and 300 hurdles, taking the 100 win by 49 one-hundredths of a second over Graves County 7th grader Sophie Galloway.
