LAND BETWEEN THE LAKES, KY/TN – Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area will host a public open house on Thursday, January 28, at Kenlake State Resort Park, 542 Kenlake Road, Aurora, KY 42048. The open house provides an opportunity to share information in a casual atmosphere. Individuals can arrive anytime between 4 pm and 6pm.
Forest Service staff will be available to provide information on the monitoring requirements in the new Forest Service 2012 Planning Rule and proposed changes to the monitoring program in the Land Between The Lakes 2004 Land and Resource Management Plan. This monitoring program review is one part of the steps leading up to Land Between The Lakes’ 2019 Area Plan revision process. “We have begun evaluating our monitoring program and will develop any needed changes to comply with the new planning rule,” said Barbara Wysock, Land Between The Lakes Area Planner. “We invite members of the public to find out more about our monitoring programs as we transition to the new planning rule requirements.” For more information on the new Forest Service 2012 Planning Rule, go to www.fs.usda.gov/planningrule.
In early February, the draft monitoring program review will be posted on the Land Between The Lakes website at www.landbetweenthelakes.us for initial feedback. There will be a 30-day comment period in March for the final draft report.
Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area manages more than 170,000 acres in western Kentucky and Tennessee as part of the U.S. Forest Service and the Department of Agriculture’s public lands program. Land Between The Lakes offers outdoor recreation, lake access, land management, and environmental education to over 1.4 million visitors annually. The Friends of Land Between The Lakes works in partnership with the Forest Service providing program services, funds development, and volunteer support.
