HEBRON, Ky. – Tipping off in their first game Monday in the LaRosa’s Holiday Classic at Conner High School, the Lady Marshals lost 44-40 to Notre Dame Academy of Park Hills, Ky., in a closely contested game from start to finish.
Tied 14-14 at the end of the first quarter and again at 24-24 at halftime, both teams struggled a bit offensively in the third quarter with Notre Dame out-scoring the Lady Marshals 7-4 to lead 31-28 going into the final quarter.
Free throws from Hannah Langhi cut the Panda’s lead back to two but was stretched out to five on a three from Lexi Miles. Down 37-33, a block by Langhi at the defensive end resulted in a three by Miyah Davis that cut the Notre Dame lead back to one with three minutes to play.
A three by Notre Dame’s Jenna Martin put the Pandas back up by four. Davis would score the Lady Marshals next four points on free throws and a field goal to tie the game at 40-40 with one minute left on the clock.
Notre Dame ended the game on three of four made free throws for the win, led in scoring by Martin with 15 points.
Langhi led the Lady Marshals with 18 points, Davis added 15, 3 for Briley English and 2 a piece for Kat Howard and Nikki Fehrenbacher.
Lady Marshals Head Coach Joseph Simmons felt his team was out-manned by Notre Dame and they got to the 50/50 balls much quicker, saying they are a good team and came out with more fire than his girls did.
Their next game will be Tuesday morning at 9:00 am (Marshall time) against the loser of Monday’s Highlands-Ashland game.
